There is, in fact, light at the end of the dark tunnel that’s been Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III’s release. And it’s a light that can shine on you too, so long as you know where to look to discover this freebie thanks to a meme Easter Egg.
The ‘Press F to pay your respects’ meme is a classic from Call of Duty that people who aren’t even fans of the franchise will know having seen it all across social media. In meme terms, it’s old school, but with this comeback we might start to see it rise from the ashes like a great phoenix.

If you want to reignite those memories and score yourself a nice freebie, you need to first locate the secret graveyard on the MWIII map – thanks to the dedication of other players, we can provide a screenshot of the location to make this a faster process for you. You’re welcome.

Now, this section of the open-world map isn’t safe thanks to its high-threat rating, so make sure to head there with an arsenal of weapons at your disposal. For veteran CoD gamers, this should be old hat to you by now, but it bears repeating. Assuming you’re properly prepared, once in the right area, you need to look for a grave that’s surrounded by weapons; this is the same grave from the familiar meme, though it looks different now.
Upon interacting with the grave, you’ll be stripped of your current weapon upgrades. Wait, wait, I can hear you all shouting that this isn’t a good thing, but it can be if you know how to time your visit well. You see, while it’ll remove your current upgrades, it’ll give you materials to upgrade your weapons the next time you enter a Zombies match, which isn’t the norm of the game. Consequently, if you wait towards the end of your match, getting these materials sets you up nicely for your next run.
Obviously, if you just want to return to the grave for the meme memories, our advice is to not interact with the grave, otherwise you’ll be paying a potentially high price just for a quick laugh. Is this enough to make up for the shoddy show that MWIII has been putting on, especially since Warzone is now “unplayable” because of its launch? Probably not, but it’s a start. A very timid start.
