Since its first release over twenty years ago, the Call of Duty series has evolved into one of the biggest video game franchises of all time breaking sales records with almost each and every release.
Last year was no exception with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III smashing records at the top of the sales charts, despite it being a critical flop. There were rumours that Modern Warfare III was going to be DLC to 2022’s Modern Warfare II, and despite claims from Activision that the Call of Duty series will skip being an annual release for now, Modern Warfare III launched as its own entity.

Sadly, despite being a lifelong fan of the series, Modern Warfare III failed to hit the mark for me, at least in terms of its single-player campaign as it lacked its cinematic presentation of previous entries and it felt stitched together with its ‘Open Combat Missions’. In my review of Modern Warfare III, I said: “Call of Duty deserved much better than this churned-out disappointment.”

However, whatever we may or may not think about last years Call of Duty, we all have individual tastes. With that in mind, this weekend you can download and play the Modern Warfare III multiplayer for free. Despite a slightly troublesome launch, the multiplayer aspect of Modern Warfare III is fun, and that I can recommend.
The free multiplayer trial which launched alongside Season 2 is available from now until Monday 12 February 2024 on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. All you have to do is visit your designated digital platform store of choice and hit that download button.
During the trial you will have access to nine maps for the traditional multiplayer modes which includes the new 6v6 Stash House map. In total, there will be five modes accessible for trialist including Team Deathmatch, Hardpoint, Domination, Kill Confirmed and the new Team Gun Game mode. Oh, and you’ll get full access to the open-world Zombies.
If you decide to make the full purchase, all your multiplayer progress will carry over. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is out now on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
