It has officially been five years since BioShock 4 was first announced and despite rumours that the entry would take “several years”, it still shows no signs of life.

First announced in 2019, BioShock 4 is the long-awaited entry in the much-loved FPS series and the next instalment after 2013’s BioShock Infinite.

Despite the confirmation of the sequel’s existence, fans have received little to no information over the past five years and any possible news has been thanks to rumours and leaks.

Set to be published by 2K Games and developed by Cloud Chamber, we know hardly anything about what BioShock 4 could feature, where it is set or what platforms we can expect to see it launched on.

Quite frankly, it seems as though the project has died without any announcements.

As a result, fans of the series are feeling frustrated and took to r/BioShock to share their anger.

The discussion kicked off in response to a post which read: “Will we see BioShock 4 in 2024? It‘s been years since the new developer Cloud Chamber has first been mentioned.”

What followed was 50 comments featuring varying levels of frustration but it is hard to blame fans who have been waiting for a new entry since 2013.

“Man, I just hope something comes out some time,” one defeated user shared.

Another said: “Probs dead. Maybe that’s fine. Cynical absolutely, but I’d rather BioShock be dead with an honorable last act than have a new entry that destroys the whole thing retroactively.

Series as it stands went out on a high note, for me that’s enough. If they make a 4 and it’s worthwhile then fine. But I have doubts. Strong doubts.”

With some fans happy to wait if that means that BioShock 4 will leave up to the past games in the franchise, it could still be a long time until Cloud Chamber releases any official updates.

Until then, we can hope and pray the project is still underway.
