BioShock 4 has fans more frustrated than ever, and we can see why

It's not looking good

As a big BioShock fan, every time that I am reminded about BioShock 4, I die a little inside as, despite being announced six years ago, its development has seemingly gone quiet.

As the fourth major instalment in the BioShock franchise, BioShock 4 was announced in 2019 and would be the first entry since BioShock Infinite was released back in 2013.

The FPS series by 2K Games is one of the most iconic in the genre since its first title, BioShock, was released in 2007.

However, after Irrational Games disbanded in 2017, it was revealed that Cloud Chamber would be in charge of the next instalment.

That being said, it has been six years since BioShock 4 was announced and fans have received no further information since.

As you can expect, this is pretty worrying and a discussion around the highly-anticipated game kicked off over on r/Bioshock last year.

“Will we see BioShock 4 in 2024? It‘s been years since the new developer Cloud Chamber has first been mentioned,” the post read and I’m pretty sure we already have an answer to that.

However, the discussion that followed shows fan’s expectations on a future release.

“Man I just hope something comes out some time,” the top comment read.

MedicalYak8571 had some information surrounding some of the most well-known leaks.

“No. The last leak I found last week, puts the release proposed for 2026,” they explained.

“It will most likely be set in Antarctica with either one very large city or maybe two smaller cities and will have a wider open world concept so it doesn't feel as linear as 1&2.”

However, FootieMob812 is feeling less optimistic.

“Probs dead,” they wrote.

Maybe that’s fine. Cynical absolutely, but I’d rather BioShock be dead with an honorable last act than have a new entry that destroys the whole thing retroactively.

Series as it stands went out on a high note, for me that’s enough. If they make a 4 and it’s worthwhile then fine. But I have doubts. Strong doubts.”
