Remakes and remasters are seemingly dominating the gaming industry at the moment, there’s no denying it, many of them revive a long-forgotten game for a new audience or rejuvenate an old favourite. When a remake or remaster is done right, it can capture the attention of old and new gamers alike.
That being said it’s no wonder that the majority of games featured on Metacritic’s best games of the year so far are games that have been remade or remastered in some way, shape or form. Resident Evil 4 (2023), Nintendo’s Metroid Prime Remastered and Witcher 3: WIld Hunt Complete Edition, are prime examples.
Whilst there are still plenty of brand-new releases taking us on adventures we’ve never been on before, like Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, or Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, it’s likely there’ll always be a returning classic on the horizon with a fresh coat of paint, like the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake.

That being said, PlayStation users took to Reddit to discuss games they’d like to see receive a remake similar to Demon Souls (2020), which was a complete reimagining and overhaul of the original in every way. User Sm00thSinceUnder00s created the post, saying: “Which game would you love to see remade, in the same manner Demon’s Souls was? For me it would be Prince of Persia: The Sand of Time or Battlefield 3.”
Interesting choices, with Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time already having a remake planned, though its release date is up in the air. Battlefield 3 would also be a good choice, especially if it brought back the beloved multiplayer, especially after the disappointment that was Battlefield 2042. The PlayStation 5 has proved to be a powerhouse when it comes to graphical fidelity, and with its range of immersive controller features like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, the console could be perfect for breathing new life into EA’s fan-favourite FPS.
Other classic games were suggested by commenters, with Capcom’s Resident Evil but with Dinosaurs, Dino Crisis, and Square Enix’s Parasite Eve both being top suggestions. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater was also suggested for a remake, which is rumoured to already exist, albeit unannounced, which might change in tomorrow’s PlayStation Showcase. Of course, another suggestion was FromSoftware’s eldritch terror-inspired Bloodborne, which is also rumoured to be getting a remaster of some kind for PS5 and PC.

It’s unclear what the future holds for remakes and remasters, though it’s almost certain that we can expect to see more releases over the years. If they can retain what made the originals so enjoyable, whilst modernising them like Demon Souls and the Resident Evil remakes did, they’re bound to be a success with new and old fans.
