With everything getting more expensive nowadays, PlayStation players aren't happy about the possibility of game prices increasing.
The Nintendo Switch 2 reveal excited people for many reasons. We got a look at the new hardware capabilities and at some of the games that'll be releasing on the console.
But what excited them less was a look at how much this'll set potential buyers back financially, with games like Mario Kart World going for up to £75/$80.

The Nintendo Switch 2 costs £395.99 in the UK.
Considering the cost of a AAA game nowadays is usually around £50 or £60, an extra 15 quid seems a little steep. If you're a gamer on a budget, it's hard to justify spending almost a full day's wages on a new game.
Over on the PS5 Reddit page, players feel similarly.

When asked how the PlayStation community feels about paying for games that may cost $80, the comments were pretty critical of the possibility.
"I feel like I'll continue to wait for sales," wrote one comment. Considering games can frequently go on sale for 50% off or more, it's sometimes worth the wait.
"I have plenty of other games I haven’t played. I’ll just stop buying games for awhile," another wrote.
"I became a [patient gamer] when they were increased to $70," a third comment wrote. "I’m not really against the $70 price tag, but it made me realize that gaming can be pretty expensive."

When looking at the cost of games nowadays, it's easy to point the finger at inflation. A PS2 game that cost $50 in 2000 would cost around $92 today.
However, it's important to keep in mind that wages have not increased at the same rate as the cost of goods. So it was easier for the average worker to afford a $50 game in 2000 compared to a $92 game in 2025.
Frustratingly, it looks like price rises for games is only going to keep occurring. Analysts reckon that Rockstar could charge up to $100 for GTA 6, and the recent Trump tariffs will also cause games to be more expensive in the United States.
If you're a gamer on a budget, you're probably better off waiting for a deep sale on some of these games.
