Whoops. Ubisoft may have just accidentally mistitled their latest release, revealing that Assassin’s Creed Mirage was seemingly previously known by another title.
It’s a joyous day for fans of the franchise as Assassin’s Creed Mirage is out now. In our review, GAMINGbible’s Sam said that, “Assassin’s Creed Mirage is a glorious return to form for the series, and I had a joyous time playing through it. It’s great to see the series shift its focus back to stealth [...] and I sincerely hope Ubisoft treat Mirage as the new baseline going forward, whilst still evolving the series further.” The game garnered respectable scores of 77 and 78 on Metacritic, although I imagine devs were hoping for those numbers to be a tad higher. In comparison, Valhalla placed in the low 80s. Still, Mirage is a solid AC game, but it seemingly almost had another name.
Take a look at Assassin’s Creed Mirage in action below.
Reddit user The_Iceman2288 took to the website to write that while unlocking an achievement on Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the game popped up as Assassin’s Creed Rift. Interesting. It could be that Rift was simply the game’s codename and the Xbox backend hasn't been updated - or perhaps Rift was the originally planned title. It sounds like a perfectly valid AC title.

Next up in the franchise, we’ve got Assassin’s Creed Codename Red - which to stick with the title theme, still hasn’t received its full name. The game is believed to feature a male samurai and a female shinobi, with the samurai reportedly being an African refugee according to leakers. The game is due to launch in 2024, so hopefully we’ll hear more in the coming months.
Before then, we’ve got Assassin’s Creed Nexus - a new VR release - and Assassin’s Creed Jade, the franchise’s first free-to-play mobile RPG effort. All in all, Assassin’s Creed fans are feasting well.
