There are several Assassin's Creed projects on the horizon and over the hill. One of them, codenamed Assassin's Creed Red, which takes place in Feudal Japan, is well into production and we're starting to see a few leaks that hint to what we'll see in the final game. Namely, more stealth.
The two protagonists for Red are a male samurai and a female shinobi who are both well versed in combat, but perhaps more interestingly, they are experts in stealth. Recent Assassin's Creed games, aside from Mirage, have gone light on the stealth gameplay in favour of RPG focused action gameplay.
Take a look at the teaser trailer for Assassin's Creed Red below.
Of course, the Ubisoft franchise started out as a more sneaky game than it is now, but fans are thrilled that this iteration is bringing back sneaky gameplay in a big way. There's not a lot known about level layouts and enemy AI, but there have been plenty of insider mentions regarding hiding bodies, sneaking through tall grass and extinguishing lights to prevent shadows.

Mirage has thankfully given us a taste of what's to come as the game returned more to the roots of the series, harking back to the original Assassin's Creed. Players are welcoming this, especially given that we haven't had a new Splinter Cell game for a long time and the Hitman franchise has been pulling in a lot of people with its true stealth gameplay.
There's no major news on when Red will release. Players have been asking for a Japanese setting for years, thinking that it would be such an easy win on Ubisoft's part. The idea of samurai and shinobi hiding in shadows, dropping onto unexpected enemies, is an exciting prospect. It would be fitting if this game completely eschewed combat in favour of stealth only making these heroes nothing more than shadows in the night.
