This year, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag turns 10 years old. A whole decade, just like that. After all this time, Black Flag is still considered by many to be one of the best, if not the best Assassin’s Creed game out there, which makes you wonder why it never got a sequel.
Except, it actually is getting one. Sort of. Back in 2021, it was confirmed that a sequel continuing Edward Kenway’s adventures is in the works, although not in the format that you’d expect.
Before we get into it, take a look at the trailer for Assassin’s Creed Mirage below.
Rather than a new game, the Black Flag sequel is actually coming in the form of a webtoon (basically like an online comic). Ubisoft previously confirmed that it’ll run for three seasons of 50 episodes, and will be published by Redice Studio - one of the biggest webtoon studios in Korea.

In an interview with Eurogamer back when the webtoon was first announced, Ubisoft’s transmedia director Aymar Azaïzia revealed that the team hadn’t begun writing just yet, but “we know exactly what we want to do”.
Azaïzia said: “We had a talk about Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and potential novels or DLCs we never used or tapped into where we could see Edward going somewhere else - maybe not staying in the same seas, maybe going East... 'That could be super interesting. We never told this story, what about pitching that?’”
He continued: “It's probably going to be just after the game, I don't know exactly which year we'll do specifically as we'll do historical research to make sure we have some nice and interesting characters, but it's after the main events of Assassin's Creed IV so a lot characters are out the call from the get-go, and at a point where Edward is embracing the Creed.”
We’ve not had an update on the webtoon in a while, but as far as we’re all aware, it’s still in development. Hopefully it won’t be too much longer until it releases.
