Assassin's Creed II isn't just the best Assassin's Creed game of all time, it's pretty much the perfect sequel.
Ubisoft took everything about the first game that worked and made it better, while simultaneously throwing in a bunch of new features to help further endear us to the budding franchise.
The instantly likeable Ezio Auditore was a revelation after the serious Altair, and a perfect match for Renaissance era Italy. Missions had more depth and felt more impactful, combat was vastly improved and our hero's arc was truly engaging from start to end.

Given how important Assassin's Creed II truly is when assessing the series' overall legacy, it's somewhat shocking that, in this age of remakes, we've yet to revisit it.
Fortunately, there's always a talented fan to imagine what such a remake would look like. YouTube channel TeaserPlay has put together some incredible Unreal Engine 5 videos in the past, including Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and God of War.
Now, they've turned their attention to Ezio's iconic adventure in a gorgeous piece of work that shows us what Assassin's Creed II would look like in Unreal Engine 5. You'll be surprised to discover it looks astoundingly good.

While an official Assassin's Creed II remake might not be on the cards anytime soon, fans of the original games can at least look forward to Assassin's Creed Mirage. The next game in the series, announced over summer, is a real return to the series' stealth-action roots.
Set in 9th Century Baghdad, Mirage will follow Basim (who you'll remember from Assassin's Creed Valhalla), as he learns to become a master assassin. Ubisoft has promised this is an Assassin's Creed game in the classic sense, complete with a focus on stealth and detailed parkour. Sounds good to us.
