Sonic Adventure 2 has been remade in Unreal Engine 5, and wouldn’t you know it, it’s still a bloody good time.
It’s in my opinion the best Sonic The Hedgehog game that’s ever been, and I’m excited to see how parts of it have been adapted into Sonic The Hedgehog 3 later this month.

Fans have been begging for a sequel for years, and while I don’t think SEGA are ever going to do one I think we could settle for this remake.

This remake comes from YouTuber JeliLiam, who painstakingly altered the graphics to be more in-line with a modern release.
From the look of things they’ve done an excellent job, and while I’d always choose the original release over something like this I can’t say I’m not interested in giving it a go.
If you’re of the same mind you’ll be happy to hear that this is a project that’s intended to be released for everyone, and you’ll be able to try it for yourself next week via a free demo.
What will be the setting for this demo? None other than the new-and-improved City Escape level, arguably the most iconic video game opening that’s ever been.

It looks incredible, and Unreal Engine 5 has done a great job of retaining the colourful art style of the original release with modern touches here and there. If SEGA released a full game in this style I wouldn’t be disappointed, let’s just leave it at that.
For those that have yet to play Sonic Adventure 2, you can play the original game (and the Sonic Adventure 2: Battle version) on your Xbox Series X/S and PC for a steal of a price.
It’s worth playing before the new film comes out too, as it’ll likely be loaded with references to the Dreamcast era games.
