After almost 40 years of being saved by Link, Princess Zelda is finally the hero of hero of her own story in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. With an arty style and world design in the vein of the 2019 remake of Link’s Awakening, this adventure sees a revolutionary take on the dungeon-stomping, puzzle-solving action the series is known for.
Right now you can take control of the princess for just £39, down from £49.99 at Very. First-party Nintendo games rarely get price drops, especially not for brand-new releases, so be sure to snap up this Cyber Monday price while it lasts.

The game kicks off with Link being subdued by an evil force, leaving Zelda to fend for herself. Without the beloved hero in green, Zelda must journey across Hyrule to gather the strength to defeat Ganon, free Link, and get back to chilling as a matter of urgency.
To traverse the world and solve the puzzles within it, Zelda uses a wand called the Tri Rod. This is where the ‘echoes’ come in: the Tri Rod creates copies of items in the world, from beds to enemies like Darknuts, providing a huge array of possibilities for completing challenges. Zelda can also use a magical sword to transform into a Link-like version of herself to do battle, although she can only do this for a limited time.
Over at Amazon it’s got a massive 4.7 out of 5 average rating from almost 400 reviews, with players particularly praising the puzzle design and the innovative approach to Zelda gameplay.
“Many classic Zelda fans can rejoice at Nintendo creating another top-down Zelda game with puzzles and exploration at the heart of the experience,” said one fan who was pleased to see a return to more structured Zelda gameplay. “There are no unharmonious 'shrines' or segmentation of game mechanics unlike Breath of the Wild. This is faithful to the classic experience with a Nintendo styled twist; traversing the world as Zelda.”

“A very enjoyable and creative Zelda,” said another five-star review. "I just hit the credits having ventured pleasantly through it, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed discovering the world and its quirky residents and playing around with Zelda’s echo ability.”
Another added: “This game is an instant classic and one of the best games in the franchise. From the feeling of nostalgia you get when re-encountering classic bosses from Ocarina of Time to the new mechanics it introduces, this game makes you feel like you are playing an OG Zelda game while allowing you to express the creativity that Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom allowed. It is the best of all worlds.”
Some players found it a bit too straightforward for their tastes. “The puzzles aren't challenging and I've breezed thought the game,” said one review. “It was so easy, felt like child's play.”
Others have said it didn’t live up to their expectations after playing Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom: “I can't see myself wanting to replay Echoes of Wisdom. It felt very much like a stop gap game until something else comes along.”

If some at-home multiplayer is more of a priority, Minecraft is just £21.99 at Game and remains a must-play after almost 15 years of block-busting action. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at £49.99 is another must-have Switch game if you’ve got some family entertainment to nail down this Christmas.
But for a novel spin on an old classic, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is an easy recommendation at just £39.
