While the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 campaign hasn’t fared well since release, with critics and players agreeing with criticisms against the single-player story, the multiplayer aspects have been relatively well received.
From 14 December you’ll be able to try out these multiplayer modes for free but you’ll need to be quick as the free period has already started and it’s a beefy download. According to Activision, players will be able to jump in and play until 18 December and try out several features including the updated Zombies mode.
You should definitely give the Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer some of your time
If you’ve been holding off from buying Modern Warfare 3, this is the perfect time to give it a try. The full list of game modes and maps you can try is listed below:

- 6v6 Core Maps: Terminal, Rust, Highrise, Shipment, Afghan, Meat.
- Ground War Maps: Popov Power, Orlov Military Base, Levin Resort.

Given that Zombies has taken over from DMZ, which was recently canned by Activision, if you enjoyed the co-op extraction gameplay, this is a great chance to see if Zombies meets your expectations before dropping your money on the game.
Modern Warfare 3 has been a muddled success for Activision, though sales are down, Warzone and the traditional multiplayer we’ve come to expect have seen plenty of players. It’s hard to ignore the campaign which was a complete miss, but this is likely due to the reduced development time of only 16 months. Thankfully the next game in the franchise, rumoured to be Black Ops Gulf War, has had much more time invested and should raise the quality of the game to meet expectations and hopes.
