If you’re a PlayStation Plus subscriber, there’s always a bounty of great games available to play through the catalogue, but recent weeks have brought over some absolute bangers. Just from recent additions, you’ve got zombie adventures, crime-fuelled antics, historical journeys, arcade racing, and multiplayer shenanigans.
We’ve selected five ‘must-play’ games you have to play before they disappear from the PlayStation Plus service. I’ve crunched the numbers and just these games alone will deliver over 360 hours of fun. All of these games can be downloaded and enjoyed right now.
Dying Light 2: Reloaded Edition
Advert
If you want to get down with some parkour and zombie action, Dying Light 2 is where you should find yourself. A step up from the original, the action is pretty much non-stop with this one. It may not have the strongest story, but there’s no denying the fun of leaping around the city and smashing the undead to pieces. Recent updates have taken this game from mediocre to must-play and even if you spend your time skipping dialogue and battling zombies, that’s time well spent if you ask me.
GTA V
You could argue that everyone has already played GTA V but you’d be wrong because I haven’t, that’s why I’ve got it downloading right now. You already know why you should play this. It’s a game so good that Rockstar Games has released it a bajillion times and it has sold a bajillion copies. It’s also a great way to pass the time if you’re hankering for GTA VI which feels so far away. Of course, this is the fully upgraded, shiny PS5 version of the game, so if you’re playing on the newest console, you’ll get the best experience.
Like a Dragon: Ishin!
Advert
While it might not be as outlandishly silly as the mainline Yakuza/Like a Dragon titles, Ishin! is well worth playing for something a bit different, especially if you’ve tried the others. It tells a much more sombre story and takes players to the 1860s. The core story is still very ‘Yakuza’ and involves murder, treachery, and family loyalty, and it’s just as awesome as the other games, even though it does suffer from a lack of fun characters and whimsy. If this is your first game in the series, you’re still going to have a very good time.
Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged
When I played Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged earlier this year, it felt like being a kid again. Sitting on the living room carpet, speeding toy cars around the place, knocking together makeshift ramps out of old books - I was a poor kid, we didn’t have actual Hot Wheels. This game is pure joy, just unadulterated fun. With lots of vehicles to choose from, many of which are licensed from popular films and TV shows, you can simply forget the world exists and just play with toy cars again. And if you’re after a challenge, some of the races are no joke, so don’t expect an easy ride just because it looks cute.
Overcooked!: All You Can Eat
Advert
I’ve played so much Overcooked in recent years. Mostly with my kids who are, quite frankly, useless chefs and spend most of their time panicking while I turn into Carmy from The Bear. The idea is so simple - you collect ingredients around a kitchen and make a meal with friends or family controlling the other chefs. However, it’s not that simple when things get going and the kitchens become obstacle courses filled with traps or dead ends that force teamwork. Asking someone to pass the fish has never been more frustrating, but that’s when it all devolves into laughter because a penguin has gotten in the way or your fellow chef is sliding about on ice and can’t deliver the salmon to the pass. May cause arguments, but it’s a riot.
