Most people have completely missed and absolutely ignored that Elden Ring has had a pause button in the menu the entire time.

As yet another FromSoftware game strolls down the path of mass critical acclaim, the debate du jour inevitably circles back around to whether or not it should have an easy mode. Creator Hidetaka Miyazaki, has already said that it will definitely never happen, and further that the difficulty is what makes up the game's identity.

This time the game is Elden Ring, and it's not easy mode people have been asking, for but a pause button. Whether you're a busy parent sneaking in a few minutes during naps, or nature just calls at an awkward time, the average gamer has been begging for the chance to take a break.

Want to know how to pause Elden Ring for yourself? The steps for how to activate the pause menu can be found in the clip below.

It's literally been there in the menu the whole time. While we know that Elden Ring likes to be obscure when it comes to things like lore and side quests, it takes on a whole new kind of meta when it starts making people search through the 6pt menu font to find how to do something simple like pause.

The thing is it's not even that hard to do. It's literally two button presses away. It's even labelled as 'help'. Help as in "Help me I'm one hit from taking down Mittens the Pyromaniac but the postie is at the door with a parcel I've been waiting for all week." Or help as in "Help this is my fifty seventh attempt at Glenneth the Anus Expander and my cat is just about to do little sick on my PS5."

So players please rejoice. Pause to your heart's content. If you're one of those who doesn't think Elden Ring should have a pause button, continue ignoring its existence as you have been for the last two weeks. Your life will literally be the same.
