It’s been confirmed that one of Bethesda’s most highly anticipated Xbox exclusives will be launching without a 60FPS performance mode at all, and fans are outraged.
Don’t panic, it’s not Starfield - it’s actually the open-world FPS Redfall. Developed by Arkane Studios, players are tasked with slaying vampires who’ve invaded the titular town, either on their own or alongside friends.
Take a look at the trailer for Redfall below.
Given that Redfall was hit with a delay last year, you’d think that the final version of the game would be top notch, but fans are starting to get very concerned about its quality given that it’s set to be capped at 30FPS on both Xbox Series X and S at launch.

On Reddit, fans have been expressing their frustration: “Microsoft first-party action first-person shooter capped at 30FPS. Absolutely unreal in 2023. I guess this is why all the preview footage was captured on a PC with Microsoft and Arkane insisting media use a controller rather than [mouse and keyboard],” Pruntessia wrote.
Others agree: “Good lord. I upgraded to the next gen of consoles specifically because of 60FPS. I thought that was the baseline, as it seems to be on the PS5 at least. […] If both Starfield and Redfall release at 30FPS capped with a promise to add it later I’m going to both seriously regret my Series X purchase and seriously question Microsoft’s handling of these studios post-acquisition,” We1tfunk commented. “Specifically looking at Redfall, this is a game releasing in 2023 on a next-gen only console with ONLY a 30FPS mode[,] these decisions are absolutely asinine. I’m not a huge snob when it comes to fidelity, refresh rate, etc. - but this entire generation has just been a case of [what the f**k] to me,” WetBreadSoupSandwich added.
The devs have confirmed that 60FPS performance mode “will be added via game update at a later date”, but it’s not been specified when. Redfall is set to release on 2 May.
