Despite being nearly a decade old at the time of writing this article, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is still one of the best-looking video games ever but now, it looks even more gorgeous.
Originally released in 2015, despite already having two games in the series inspired by the Andrzej Sapkowski novels, it’s fair to say that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt helped to put developer CD Projekt RED on the map.

“You are Geralt of Rivia, mercenary monster slayer. Before you stands a war-torn, monster-infested continent you can explore at will. Your current contract? Tracking down Ciri — the Child of Prophecy, a living weapon that can alter the shape of the world,” reads the synopsis of The Witcher 3.

In December 2023, The Witcher 3 was made to look and perform better than ever, thanks to the free new-gen update that arrived on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. What’s more, it even benefits from free DLC that includes Netflix-inspired content also made available for the pure wizardry that is the Nintendo Switch port.
However, as good as The Witcher 3 looks, regardless of the platform, PC gamers have the added benefit of talented modders who not only bring new content and fix bugs to the games we love but they can also improve a game's visuals and performance.
One such mod is the free download available now via Nexusmods called ‘4K Improved Story and Side Characters’ which pretty much does exactly what it says in its title. Created by modder ‘Instanity’, this impressive mod only has a download size of just 500MB, which much like the Switch port, is also pure wizardry.
This mod not only improves the character models of Geralt, Ciri, Triss and Yennefer but pretty much every other main NPC that you encounter in the land of the Continent. Unfortunately, as with the nature of most mods, this one is only compatible with the PC version of the game and not for consoles.
