In the last few months, Infinity Ward have slowly been lifting the lid on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II but Warzone 2 has been kept under wraps, albeit except for a few vague teases. It was revealed at Summer Game Fest that Warzone 2 will be “an extension of the Modern Warfare II universe” and utilise the same engine, but now we know that a full reveal is on the way.

A Call of Duty Next showcase has been announced for 15 September. The “era-defining livestream franchise event” promises to make a number of reveals including the one we’ve all been waiting for. CODNEXT will discuss “the future of Warzone” and “the Warzone mobile experience.” It’s finally happening.

The event will also explore Modern Warfare II’s multiplayer component and will feature “live gameplay from your favourite streamers.” It’s pretty likely that we’ll see more Modern Warfare II gameplay, but it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that we may also see a little bit of Warzone 2 gameplay thrown in there too. We’ll cross our fingers.
Prominent leaker Tom Henderson previously revealed Warzone 2’s huge new map, and it was suggested that the game may contain new challenge-based Strongholds and an overhauled inventory system. The showcase mysteriously promises “[[Redacted]] information and surprises,” so be prepared for anything.
