The Boys officially coming to an end with its fifth season

The Boys officially coming to an end with its fifth season

Get ready to say goodbye

Making its debut in 2019, The Boys is one of the most popular, brutal, funny and at times politically incorrect shows in recent memory, and that’s why we love it, but it’s time to prepare our goodbyes.

Tomorrow the fourth season of The Boys premieres on Amazon’s Prime Video streaming service on Thursday, 13 June with its first three episodes. Each episode will then be available weekly, with the final and eighth episode arriving on 18 July and fans cannot wait to be immersed in levels of wrongness that only The Boys can deliver.

Check out The Boys season four trailer below!

“The world is on the brink. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office—and Butcher, who has only months to live, has lost Becca’s son as well as his job as The Boys’ leader,” reads the synopsis of season four. “The team is fed up with his lies—but with the stakes higher than ever, they have to find a way to work together and save the world.”

Sadly, season four which features a new character played by The Walking Dead star, Jeffrey Dean Morgan is officially its penultimate season, as confirmed by showrunner, Eric Kripke.

As spotted by Variety, Kripke tweeted: “The Boys Season 4 Premiere Week is a good time to announce: Season 5 will be the Final Season! Always my plan, I just had to be cagey till I got the final OK from Vought. Thrilled to bring the story to a gory, epic, moist climax. Watch Season 4 in 2 DAYS, 'cause the end has begun!”

Naturally, it’s always going to be a sad time when good things come to an end but in my opinion, a show that knows when to end can be a good thing. Arguably, shows like Prison Break, Lost, Heroes and even Game of Thrones were all great but perhaps went on for a season or two longer than they should have.

Now, hopefully, season five of The Boys will join the elite shows Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul in having a set date of when it's going to end with a solid plan of how it's going to come to a befitting conclusion. Of course, The Boys season five could mess it up big time but judging by the quality of the series so far, that might be an unlikely scenario.

No release date has been announced for season five of The Boys at the time of writing but it might be safe to assume that it’s a couple of years away.
