With a new sequel film in the Star Wars saga expected to hit cinemas in 2026, one of its stars has recently spoken out about what fans can expect and it’s safe to say, the response was very normal.
That was sarcasm, by the way.

Set to be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and written by George Nolfi (after three writers previously left the project), the latter already has a deep understanding of what the team wants to achieve with the 2026 entry.
“If you think about George Lucas, the six movies that he did, and the universe that he created, it’s actually very steeped in broad notions of politics,” Nolfi said.
“It’s not talking about today, per se, but there’s the Empire’s Nazism slash Roman Empire.”
Conversations surrounding politics are as crucial now as they have ever been so it is no wonder that it is making its way into a world very much based on real-world issues.

Although this has always been the case for the Star Wars franchise, it seems as though some fans have missed the memo.
Either way, it is something that Daisy Ridley agrees on.
Best known for her role as Rey in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, Ridley will be returning for New Jedi Order and recently spoke to Inverse alongside Nolfi.
“I feel like [the Star Wars films] are all political,” she explained.

“I feel like it's the individual versus the big corporation or the big group, so I think they always have been..
And ultimately I think the films are emotional in that it's good and evil, which we all can relate to very specifically in our day-to-day lives.
But yes, I do feel those conversations are woven within the story, and I'm very excited to see what George does.”
However, it wasn’t long before these comments spread to Twitter where they were not received well.

“Go woke, go broke,” one user said.
“Anything outside of good guys vs. bad guys or the light vs. the dark is a distraction from the entertainment experience.”
However, in order to cleanse our eyes, another user had a different stance.
“I am honestly getting more and more excited about this movie. They seem to really get SW,” they said.
