Darth Maul is one of the most recognisable characters of all time, which is especially surprising considering his “death” during Star Wars: Episode 1: The Phantom Menace.

However, after 25 years, fans have uncovered a secret from that legendary fight between Darth Maul and Qui-Gon Jinn.

To rewind a little bit, Darth Maul experienced one of the best arcs over the course of his time in the Star Wars universe.

The Sith Lord first appeared in Star Wars: Episode 1: The Phantom Menace before dying at the hand of Qui-Gon.

However, he returned in Star Wars: The Clone Wars as well as starring in Solo: A Star Wars Story and Rebels.

It is in the latter that Darth Maul actually died but an uncovered secret adds a lot more meaning to his true death.

His true death was at the hands of Obi-Wan Kenobi - which is ironic considering Obi-Wan was Qui-Gon’s Padawan - and took place during season three of Star Wars Rebels.

Now, it's been pointed out by starwars.com that the duel between Maul and Obi-Wan had direct parallels to the fight with Qui-Gon that took place 25 years ago.

"The move that Maul tries after the initial exchange, he actually attempts the move that killed Qui-Gon Jinn,” the blog post reads.

“He tries to bash [Obi-Wan] with the hilt," revealed producer Henry Gilroy. "But Kenobi had learned a lot since that fateful day, and it became the last move Maul would make."

It is not something that a casual viewer would notice but it is so interesting to see a full-circle moment between Darth Maul and a master and their Padawan.

So it will be no surprise that fans will revisit The Phantom Menace and Rebels to see the familiar choreography and it definitely sends Darth Maul off in an iconic way.
