Star Wars torture scene is the franchise's darkest by far: 'it haunts me'

Sure to a send a shiver down your spine

Star Wars has never shied away from the darker side of human nature. Yet, some moments in the franchise go harder than others.

One scene in particular still “haunts” fans, and is regarded as one of the darkest scenes in the series.

Having squirmed while watching this scene myself, I have to agree it makes for extremely uncomfortable viewing.

In the acclaimed TV series Andor, there are many moments that drive home the harsh realities of living under the Galactic Empire.

But the scene in which Bix is tortured lingers long after viewing.

We're both scared and excited to see what the second season of Andor involves.

On r/StarWars, AirlockBob77 said, “The whole idea of the method of torture is pure genius and one of the reasons Andor is off the charts in quality.”

For those of you who can’t remember this scene (you’re lucky), Bix is forced to endure listening to the “dying sounds of the children of a genocided species [sic]”.

This might not sound like torture to some fans, as one user admitted that they struggled to imagine how “any sound could drive someone crazy”. However, as another fan explained, the combination of the sound mixed with other factors is difficult to endure.

“Having undergone ‘sound torture’ as part of training while in the military, it’s not the sound itself. It’s always combined with sleep deprivation and sensory deprivation,” jeewest detailed.

“I did it for what I think was about four hours (no way to actually tell), and it seeped so deep into my brain that even when I was dozed off I could hear it.”

Other fans without such experience reference the audio taken from Jonestown as proof enough that sound is a powerful tool that can break any psyche.

User Arkhampatient commented, “Jonestown. I was listening to a podcast about Jim Jones and it played that audio. I could not listen to it. It gave me chills all the way into my bones.”

Even without any violence witnessed by the viewer, this Andor scene’s “dark ideology” is haunting.
