What might not surprise many but will disappoint some fans at the same time, Star Wars: The Acolyte has been cancelled after just one season.
The Acolyte only debuted in the Star Wars universe in June this year with its last episode airing on Disney Plus on 16 July 2024. It even left us on more than one cliffhanger, but now confirming recent speculation, fans will never get to see how events play out in season two.
ICYMI: Here’s our chat with the cast of The Acolyte
At the end of the day, whether someone likes a movie or TV series, is personal preference. As a lifelong Star Wars fan, I knew that The Acolyte was goofy and very silly in places (even for Star Wars) and featured some of the dumbest Jedi ever, but weirdly, it’s kind of why I enjoyed watching this series.

Created, written and produced by Leslye Headland, it’s fair to say that The Acolyte was one of the most polarising Star Wars products even as indicated by its Rotten Tomatoes score of 78% from critics and just 18% from the audience. Although angry fans were review-bombing the wrong Acolyte product on Rotten Tomatoes at one point.
However, as reported by Deadline, despite garnering 4.8 million views with its first two episodes, a record for a premiere series on Disney this year, and even totalled over 11 million views globally over the next five days, The Acolyte has officially come to an end.
The Acolyte wasn't perfect by a long shot, but it did have some memorable moments such as introducing one of the most infamous Sith Lords in live-action form for the very first time. I suppose for a series being accused of breaking Star Wars canon, ironically, it now might be wise to consider The Acolyte as non-canon.
If you wanted to see what all the fuss is about, The Acolyte season one will still be available to stream on Disney Plus, despite its cancellation.
