In the 90s, no end of films came out that changed the way we look at the world. You could argue that Toy Story changed how we eyed our eyes with scrunity, but for me, it was Small Soldiers.
Seeing toys get into such heated battles like that, and in a live action setting, captured my imagination intensely at that time. A video game did later come out based on the film, but it was a middling sort of experience, then... nothing. It's been radio silence on the Small Soldiers front. Until now.

Small Soldiers: War For The Necron is a stunning way to reboot the series, and has immediately got gamers and film fans alike talking because it seems to have come out of nowhere. Not that we're complaining, we're just surprised by its appearance.
It seems we're not alone in our confusion as others have been asking if this game is somewhow connected to the film, and if so, how. "I'm confused... s this in any way connected to the Small Soldiers movie from the 90s? Like the same IP? Very clearly inspired by it," queried one Reddit after watching the concept trailer for the game.

From there, gamers started to analyse the devs behind the project; their overall conclusion is to keep expectations "low", yet all we see is a fire looking game. We appreciate the studio developing it has form of "cashing in" on old IPs, but nobody can deny that this reboot looks extremely promising, as other Redditors agree. "Well I wish them [the devs] luck. This proof of concept has promise," reasoned one hopeful fans. "Get some celebrity voice talent and smart dialogue and it could be fun."

Obviously, it needs to be more than just "fun" to wow longtime fans of the 90s film, but "promising' is a solid start. Let's hope the development continues to wow us as we slowly see more from this project emerge.
