Game adaptations are all the rage, especially as Hollywood has now realised that they’re capable of winning awards.
There was once a time when it felt as if every video game adaptation was a colossal box office flop, but that’s certainly no longer the case.
The Last of Us, Fallout, Twisted Metal, and The Super Mario Bros. Movie are proof that if you respect the source material, you can end up with a really successful project.

Of course, a couple of duds continue to slip through the cracks. I’m looking at your Borderlands.
The ongoing slew of adaptations isn’t set to end anytime soon, with TV and film iterations of Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, Minecraft, The Legend of Zelda, Pacific Drive, Until Dawn, The Sims, and Mass Effect all on the way.
There’s one franchise that I know I’m not alone in thinking would make a fantastic prestige TV series, and that franchise is Red Dead Redemption.
I hardly doubt I need to convince you of its potential, but Rockstar has seemingly never been open to developing such a project.

That hasn’t stopped fans from discussing the possibility, particularly regarding whether such an adaptation could be as critically successful as the likes of Fallout and The Last of Us.
ICYMI: A new trailer has dropped for season two of The Last of Us which airs this April.
“Really depends on the actors. The writing is certainly good enough to be the base for an Emmy-worthy performance by a talented actor,” suggested Grimbelfix.

“If it was a full-fledged show, with worthy production value and writing, this thing could easily rival any highly-lauded shows that have come before it,” added Zalym.
“Before TLOU I would have said no, because the plot is obviously written to allow the gang to move between the states so the player is encouraged to explore. But I think TLOU showed a good way of taking those chapters and making it feel cohesive,” offered ferchalurch.
A more critical Gbum7 countered with, “There's absolutely no way they make an adaptation that does RDR2 justice. Just like every single video game adaptation, cough Witcher, they'll make great casting choices and terrible tweaks to the source material.”
Personally, I’m in the former camp. I think such a series, or film, could be a huge success - if only Rockstar was willing to take the plunge.
