Nintendo has reaffirmed that we’re getting a major The Legend of Zelda release before the end of this decade. Yay!
The Legend of Zelda is without question one of the biggest video game properties of all time, and not just for the Nintendo brand, but the industry as a whole. Since it made its debut on the NES in 1986, it has given players a sense of adventure that no other game has been able to provide.

Sometimes, video game properties are so popular that they spawn a big movie for the silver screen, which can be a very mixed bag of tricks. Case and point, the woeful (and you know that it is) live-action Super Mario Bros. movie from 1993.

However, when you compare that to the Super Mario Bros. Movie, an animated adaptation that was released in 2023, it’s fair to say that this version was much better received by fans and critics alike (mostly).
The Super Mario Bros. Movie generated a whopping $1 billion at the global box office, so it should come as no surprise that Nintendo was quick to commission a sequel. Furthermore, a movie inspired by The Legend of Zelda was also greenlit.
Sadly, The Legend of Zelda movie will not be animated but instead live-action. So I’ll guess we just have to hope that it doesn't share the same fate as the 1993 Super Mario Bros.
As reported by Gameranx, Super Mario Bros. Movie 2 is expected to be released sometime in 2026. But at this time, The Legend of Zelda has no definitive release date or window.

According to a recent Nintendo investor call, we can at least expect The Legend of Zelda's live-action movie to arrive this decade.
A decade might sound dramatic with it being 10 years but in this instance, it means that the movie starring Link and Princess Zelda should arrive within five years, with a bit of luck - in other words, by the time 2030 arrives, marking the end of this decade.
To be fair, that vague timeline does make sense because we still don't know who will direct, produce or star in the movie. We can only assume that it might tell the cliché story of Link saving Princess Zelda from Ganondorf.
We’ll keep you posted once we hear more on The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Bros. Movie 2.
