It is common knowledge that Andrew Garfield’s stint as our favourite web-slinger was a tale of two halves with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 not living up to the success of its predecessor.
Due to an abundance of unanswered subplots, and the introduction of too many new characters, 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was mainly received negatively by viewers and marked the end of Garfield’s time as Peter Parker.

Despite fans praising his portrayal, it seems as though the writing let him down and although a third and fourth film were announced by Sony ahead of the premiere of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, they never came to fruition.

So if two more movies were confirmed, does that mean they could still happen?
According to Alex Kurtzman, who helped co-write the second movie, the answer to that question is not what we wanted to hear.
When asked about a potential The Amazing Spider-Man 3 by ScreenRant, he said, “You know, we never wrote it. We never wrote it. I did 2 and that was it for me.”
It seems as though it wasn’t just viewers who were upset with the third movie never seeing the light of day as Garfield also shared the same sentiment.

“And I wanted to…not to say that I needed to rescue those films, but I couldn’t make them as deep and soulful and…life-giving as I could ever dream,” he said back in 2015.
“And I’m never gonna be able to do that, with any film. It was especially difficult in that situation because…well, just because.”
Since then, we know that Garfield was able to reprise his role as Spidey during 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home alongside Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire which does leave the door open for his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
However, it seems as though it won’t be during The Amazing Spider-Man 3 which is a shame to say the least.
