In today’s ‘most ridiculous comment on the internet’ contest, I think we already have a winner. Over on Twitter, a user has proclaimed that Tom Holland is ‘washed.’

That’s right, Marvel’s most bankable star, after Robert Downey Jr, the lead actor for their Spider-Man franchise which has earned over $1.5 billion.

In the tweet, the user said, “Pushing 30 and not having a career outside Spider-Man is crazy levels of washed.” This came after the news that Tom Holland would return to the role of Spidey.

In what now seems like bait, the user proclaiming that Holland is ‘washed’ just seems utterly bonkers.

He’s easily one of Hollywood’s hottest stars and while he hasn’t attached himself to many other franchises, he’s still making money and expanding his acting skills in challenging projects.

Of course, this comment went on to spark plenty of conversation on social media across many fandoms.

One reply sums up much of the reaction, “If being one of the most recognizable actors out there and having starred in several of the top 10 highest-grossing movies of all time is “washed” then what’s your criteria for success lol?”

Another user is quick to point out that Holland is actually at the ideal age for his role as Spider-Man;

“Tobey Maguire was 27-32 during his trilogy and Andrew Garfield was 29-31 during his movies. Tom Holland is 28 and he’s already done a whole trilogy.”

There are many saying that the original comment is purely bait and, honestly, it feels that way. There’s not a universe out there where this comment is true, and I’m not trying to gas up Tom Holland.

The way Holland is going he has easily got another trilogy in him before he steps out of the role and even then he could carry on with Marvel in an Iron Man mentor role because the audience loves him.
