MCU fans divided over our new Wolverine

MCU fans divided over our new Wolverine

Up, up and away with you

Just a heads up before you continue any further into this article; this post contains massive, huge, astronomically large spoilers for Marvel and Disney’s latest film Deadpool & Wolverine.

Don’t read beyond this point if you’re still, somehow, planning to go into the film spoiler-free! You have been warned.

So, this little indie film just hit cinemas. It’s called Deadpool & Wolverine. I’m gonna go ahead and assume you’ve seen it, because it’s already made a billion bloody dollars.

But if you haven’t seen it and assumedly just don’t care about spoilers, there’s a new Wolverine!

Well, he’s not confirmed to be the Wolverine moving forward, but he is at least a Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I am of course referring to Henry Cavill, who took on the role of an alternate universe version of Wolverine during a rather lengthy cameo.

Naturally, this resulted in a little bit of healthy internet discourse, as people immediately began discussing whether or not they want Cavill to fill the role permanently.

So, where better than to get the real fans opinions on this topic than the Wolverine subreddit itself.

In a post on the subreddit titled “Would you want Henry Cavill as MCU's Wolverine?” folks started offering up their opinions, and it’s surprisingly… divided.

The top comment was pretty positive but levelheaded, stating “I think he fits well, but I have a feeling they'll pick someone younger to do more and more movies” - which makes sense, considering Cavill is already 41.

Makes a bit less sense when you realise Hugh Jackman is 55, but whatever.

Oh, speaking off, the next comment said “Nah, I prefer Hugh till he's 90”. A common sentiment amongst the fanbase in general, but maybe let the poor fella have a break.

“No just I enjoyed him as fancast as much Krasinski Reed”, read another, referring to John Krasinki’s cameo as Mr Fantastic in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.

So, for the time being at least, the jury is still out on Cavill’s take on the character.

Nobody has been officially cast as the MCU’s main universe version of Wolverine yet, but you better believe they’ll be keeping an eye on everyone’s opinion of Cavill’s performance until then.
