Marvel drops bloody first look at new R-rated Deadpool & Wolverine series

The unlikely duo is back

If we didn’t love them already, 2024 was the year that we all fell even more in love with Wade Wilson and Logan thanks to the success of Deadpool & Wolverine.

Hitting cinemas back in July and spending consecutive weeks as the highest-earning blockbuster saw Deadpool & Wolverine become an instant hit.

Check out the official trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine below!

Telling the story of Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, we saw the unlikely duo become best buddies as they teamed up with familiar faces to help safeguard the multiverse.

Since then, Marvel fans have been eager to see the duo return and despite rumours of a sequel movie and even a hint at a Christmas special, they still want more.

Thankfully, they are in luck as Wade and Logan are back courtesy of a Marvel Comics series.

Deadpool/Wolverine by writer Benjamin Percy and artist Joshua Cassera is inspired by R-rated ‘80s action classics such as Commando and Rambo: First Blood II.

“That was the vibe that Josh, I, and Mark Basso (our fearless editor) agreed upon: non-stop thrills, insane action set-pieces, and a gonzo 80s action movie precedent,” Percy explained in an interview with IGN.

“We want you to feel like Stallone/Schwarzenegger/Van Damme could be a guest star in any of these issues.”

He continued: “The film was both a hit and a hoot, but we started working on this series long before we ever saw Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds tear each other apart in a Honda Odyssey.

So I can’t say it was an influence, but I can say the dynamic between the characters will feel familiar to theatergoers: fun, thrilling, and both adversarial and bro-mancey (not to mention violent as hell).”

Deadpool/Wolverine #1 will hit the shelves on 1 January, 2025.
