We’re currently playing a game of chicken with the stars of the MCU as they spark rumours of returning, then suddenly play a Uno reverse card on us.
The latest star to say they’re not returning for Avengers: DOOMSDAY is Chris Evans, as reported by Esquire.
Captain America will be back in cinemas very soon.
When discussing the upcoming event film, Evans said on his appearance, “Yeah, no… happily retired!”

Do we believe him? Do we believe anything the Marvel actors say in interviews when they’re all under such strict NDAs?
Then there’s the fact that Marvel Studios will have pinned down the story, but could add cameos at literally any point in the shooting of the films.
The majority of fans across social media and message boards are all saying the same thing: “Yeah, sure buddy.”
It was only a few days ago when Benedict Cumberbatch said he wasn’t starring in Avengers: DOOMSDAY as Doctor Strange, before correcting the statement and saying he’s on board.

Who’s to say it’s not all one big bait and switch to gauge how fans feel about potential characters stepping up.
At this point, maybe we should just assume that everyone is in the film, or nobody is, and then we’ll get a surprise when the trailer finally drops.
All we know for certain is that Robert Downey Jr. is putting on the Doctor Doom mask, and it’s highly likely that the current roster of stars will be a part of the avenging team.
Personally, I’d love to see Chris Evans come back in some way, even if it’s as a Dark Avenger established by Doom to mess with the MCU.

If this is a big goodbye to the MCU as we know it, I can’t imagine Evans won’t be a part of it, perhaps just in Secret Wars instead of DOOMSDAY.
