Marvel releases first look at our all-new Avengers team

The Avengers as we know them could be in trouble as a new team is on the way to take their place, led by Doctor Doom of all people.

Doctor Doom is without a doubt one of the best Marvel villains ever to grace the page, so for its sake let’s hope Marvel Studios is cooking something good for the character with Avengers Doomsday and Avengers Secret Wars.

As for the next Marvel blockbuster though we’ve just past Captain America Brave New World, now it’s the Thunderbolts’ time to shine

Away from the Marvel Cinematic Universe though and back in the comics universe is once again under siege, in Superior Avengers.

The comic series sees Doctor Doom leading his own team of Latverian heroes against the world.

Technically though this isn’t the Doctor Doom, it’s his son Kristoff Vernard, who’s leading a team composed of Abomination, Ghost, Killmonger, Malekith, Onslaught, and the new Doctor Octopus.

It’s believed this new set-up will soon take down the actual Avengers as well as the Fantastic Four, though its first mission will be defeating the supervillain Diablo.

Speaking about the new series, writer Steve Foxe said: “Introducing any new character to the Marvel Universe — let alone an entire cast of them — is both an honor and no small terror … The Avengers that readers are going to meet here may have familiar names, but you’ll quickly come to learn why they consider themselves superior to other teams.”

It’s an interesting premise and one we can’t wait to see play out, as this could be a recurring team in the wider Marvel lore if it’s a success.

Who knows, perhaps we’ll even see a rough adaptation of them in the upcoming Avengers films, as Robert Downey Jr is back playing a different character and it’s rumoured Chris Evans is returning too to play someone other than Captain America.
