I hope you’re caught up on Amazon Prime’s Rings of Power season two because, oh boy, things got weird.
If you’re not caught up, then the headline probably spoiled a very minor part of episode three of the latest season as we got to see a baby orc and, well, it was a big moment for The Lord of the Rings.
The Lord of the Rings will be back in cinemas soon with an anime adaptation
In one scene, one of Adar’s Orc captains regroups with his wife and child after unsuccessfully lobbying Adar not to cause trouble (isn’t an Orc supposed to start trouble?) and we get a glimpse of a baby Orc.

It’s a blink-and-you-’ll-miss-it moment, but it means that Middle-Earth does in fact have baby Orcs.
I’m not sure how Tolkien would feel about this one. The folks on Twitter weren’t too sure either.
One user wrote, “Us: we just want a faithful adaptation of Tolkiens works. Amazon: best we can do is baby orcs.”
This comes after the inclusion felt a bit silly. However, it would make some sort of sense. After all, this comes after hundreds of years since Orcs appeared, how else does the population grow?

Though this does bring up the image of Orc copulation - don’t Google it.
This idea kind of tracks with Tolkien’s concepts, but it’s never fully realised. The author wrote only that Orcs “multiply” but I guess they had bump very uglies in order to bolster their numbers.
Back to Twitter and the comments keep coming, “FOR JUST $1/DAY YOU CAN SPONSOR AN ORPHANED ORC CHILD. THEY MAY BE BRED FROM TORTURE AND HATE BUT EVERY ORC BABY DESERVES A CHANCE TO GROW UP AND EAT MAN FLESH.”
Many were horrified, calling it “unserious” and “ridiculous.” Others revelled in the opportunity saying, “Anyway funniest moment of the first three eps is easily the reveal that the orc goon is an orc husband with an ORC BABY????? stunning implications.”
