Last week saw Nintendo announce that its upcoming The Legend of Zelda live-action movie will be hitting cinemas on 26 March, 2027.
With the movie being a long way out, Nintendo has understandably not revealed any further information about what viewers can expect.
However, what we do know is that Zelda series creator Shigeru Miyamoto is producing the film alongside Avi Arad, with the latter having previously produced 2022’s Uncharted and 2024’s Borderlands.

In the meantime, check out the latest Zelda entry, Echoes of Wisdom, below!
They will also be joined by Wes Ball who will be directing The Legend of Zelda live-action movie and he is no stranger to the genre after previously having worked on the Maze Runner franchise.
Who will take on the iconic roles of Link, Zelda, Ganon, and more remains to be seen but it is an exciting time for fans of the Nintendo franchise nonetheless.

Or is it?
Well, despite the movie being a couple of years away, controversy surrounding its unnamed cast has already begun over on r/zelda.
For some unknown reason, the movie is already receiving hate and although video game adaptations have previously been hit-or-miss affairs, it seems unfair to judge it so soon.
Luckily, user NoRaspberry7579 agrees, saying: “I see the movie getting a lot of hate already and a little confused as to why. Don't get me wrong, with live action I don't want any fantasy aspect lost and I don't want big names being used for the cast, something Nintendo likes to cash in on. That said, I don't see why it's an altogether bad thing.”

However, it seems as though user dreamsareburied summed it up.
“Zelda fans are gonna hate it even if it’s good,” they commented.
Additionally, one other user agreed with the original post, adding that they were going to stay optimistic because the hatred is exhausting.
“People assume the worst for big studio productions. They would rather never have a Zelda movie than have a bad Zelda movie,” their comment read.

“It baffles me as well considering we know and have seen literally nothing about this movie other than what, the director? His latest movie was Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, which if anybody watched it was pretty dang good and in my opinion showed a lot from a storytelling perspective and world-building perspective of things that would fit very nicely in a Zelda movie.”
As the old saying goes, ‘haters are gonna hate’ but regardless of their thoughts, The Legend of Zelda live-action movie is still set to hit cinemas in 2027.
