First announced way back in 2021, Netflix’s animated Tomb Raider series is now rumoured to be a James Bond-esque adventure for Lara Croft.
Netflix previously announced that it would be teaming up with Crystal Dynamics, Square Enix and Legendary Television to create a brand-new animated series based on the much-loved Tomb Raider series.

Since its trailer was first released back in September 2023, we have yet to hear much more about the project. However, the show titled The Legend of Lara Croft, will reportedly be “unifying the timelines of Tomb Raider” and transitioning “beyond the survivor trilogy”, according to show writer, Tasha Huo.

Anime fans will also be excited to hear that The Legend of Lara Croft will also be headed by animation studio Powerhouse Animation which is best known for its work on Netflix’s Castlevania.
Other than that, we also know that Hayley Atwell (Agent Carter, Captain America) will take on the leading role of Lara Croft and the story will take place 25-years after the events of the first Tomb Raider game.
Up until now, that is all we have learned about the animated series. However, according to a recent rumour found on r/TombRaider, Lara Croft is set to have a “James Bond-esque edge and runs her own business known as Croft Industries."
“She will also have a tech team with more modern gadgets and weapons. Team members include Zip from the game and Jonah.”

This is quite a step away from the Lara Croft we have grown to know courtesy of the recent Tomb Raider remake trilogy. However, with The Legend of Lara Croft aiming to step away from the survivor trilogy, perhaps this is the path it will be taking.
With no release date yet announced for the animated series, it remains to be seen when we get to see an anime Lara Croft in action.
