It feels like, no matter who is cast in the upcoming HBO adaptation of Harry Potter, it’s going to be divisive.
Harry Potter is such a beloved franchise, with what many fans consider perfect film adaptations, that any announcement is going to split the fanbase.

The casting of Professor McGonagall is the latest to have fans torn.
Janet McTeer has been announced to step into the role, taking over from Dame Maggie Smith, who starred in the film series.
After news broke on Twitter, fans were certainly vocal with their thoughts.
“Literally, why are they doing this?” said one user.

I’m not sure if they want an answer to this question, as there are a wealth of answers to give.
A random comment from another user said simply, “Nobody asked you,” and I have no idea whether they’re mad, a bot, or just annoyed the news was being reported.
Thankfully, there’s a good portion of fans who seem happy with this news, and are welcoming McTeer to the franchise.
“Ah, she's so good.,” commented one fan.

“Perfect casting!!!!” exclaimed an enthusiastic user.
I have no horse in this race, but the remaking of the franchise for TV seems a logical step for Warner Bros. who will want a new generation of fans to find love for the Harry Potter wizarding world.
It’s been years since the films debuted and that generation of fans grew up, so doing something fresh could work out well.
McTeer comes over from Ozark, a banger of a show, where she delivered a superb performance in every episode.
