The year 2002 could be considered a turning point for live-action superhero movies with the release of Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man starring Tobey Maguire, directed by Sam Raimi.
Then in 2005, it was the turn of DC with Batman Begins with Christian Bale as the Caped Crusader and Christopher Nolan as director. This series of critically acclaimed movies would become a box office trilogy hit with The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises in 2008 and 2012, respectively.

For the topic of today’s discussion, the focus is on The Dark Knight with fans voting it as the greatest superhero movie of all time on IMDb. “With the help of allies Lt. Jim Gordon and DA Harvey Dent, Batman has been able to keep a tight lid on crime in Gotham City. But when a vile young criminal calling himself the Joker suddenly throws the town into chaos, the caped Crusader begins to tread a fine line between heroism and vigilantism,” reads the synopsis of The Dark Knight.

The poll was conducted with just under 24,000 votes with Avengers: Endgame being in second place and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in third. To be fair, that’s a fantastic top three to debate. On IMDb, The Dark Knight has an almighty score of 9.0 and a score of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, further validating the movie as an all-time great.
At least in terms of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, the 2008 movie is my personal favourite in large part due to the incredible performance from the late Heath Ledger as the anarchist and chaos bringing Joker. I can watch this movie over and over, if only for this performance.
If you’ve never watched Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, you need to add it to your to-do list ASAP. You won't be disappointed.
