Batman: Resurrection officially brings back Michael Keaton's Dark Knight

The best Batman is back

I’ve always found Michael Keaton to be the best Batman - perhaps because I grew up with his performance - and he’s making a comeback in Batman: Resurrection.

If you’re wondering why, after the popularity of Batman and Batman Returns, Tim Burton and Michael Keaton didn’t make a third film, it’s because Warner Bros. wanted a more family-friendly approach.

For a taste of Gotham while Batman isn't on our screens you should check out The Penguin

Now, a new novel will take us back to Burton’s Gotham in an adventure that takes place between the two films.

Batman: Resurrection written by John Jackson Miller, explores the aftermath of the death of The Joker.

Miller explained more about the book to Forbes via email and gave some intriguing details for Batman fans.

“There’s a resurgence of interest in The Joker, as his cult of personality takes hold,” Miller explains, and he hints that, “There’s a certain down-on-his-luck actor whose body is terribly transformed.”

This has us thinking that Clayface will make an appearance and go toe-to-toe with Keaton’s Batman.

There’s a part of me very disappointed we will never see this on-screen because Burton would have done a great job with a villain like Clayface.

Miller seems to be creating a gem of a novel for fans though as he explains further, “Most disquieting of all for [Batman], is the possibility that events in the Gotham Cathedral were not as they seemed — and that maybe, just maybe, his greatest enemy might have pulled the king of all practical jokes.”

With the darkness of this version of Gotham plus the myriad of villains who never got a shot at Batman, Miller could have many more stories to tell.

Miller is no slouch when writing pop culture IPs as he has put his pen to Star Wars, Star Trek, and the comics of Iron Man.

The book is out now so we’ll surely see spoilers popping up online very soon.
