Batman and Robin are the dynamic duo of DC, though over the years, it’s always felt weird that the world’s greatest detective would let a child tag along during his crusade against crime.
It’s even worse when you look at Batman’s rogue gallery, with villains like Joker, Bane, Scarecrow, and Poison Ivy all posing great threats to adults, let alone children.
Speaking of Batman, have you seen The Penguin yet?
However, a new comic has tackled this moral dilemma head on, by showing us how the very first case for Batman and Robin went, and why Batman decided he was an important member of the team.

Batman and Robin: Year One #1 sees Batman take Damian Wayne on his first patrol as Robin, and as you’d expect, the pair quickly get into trouble.
It’s revealed in the comic that Batman takes Damian out to fight crime because his skills would be valuable to the innocent people in Gotham, but also because it’ll help teach him how to control his anger and be a hero, not a weapon.
Fans will know that this is the exact same reason why he adopted Dick Grayson, as Dick’s parents were murdered in the same way Bruce’s were, and without Bruce’s interference, Dick could have grown-up to be just as cold and vengeful as the Batman is.
It’s an important reveal, and shows that Bruce understands his own methods, while resulting in good, are driven by the wrong emotions and he doesn’t want his son to travel down the same path he took into the dark.

Batman and Robin: Year One #1 is available now, with future issues on the way throughout the rest of the year.
