We may be getting closer to the release of The Witcher’s third season, but that also means we’ll soon have to say goodbye to Henry Cavill’s Geralt, and I don’t think any of us are ready for that.
Cavill’s departure from the show was the news that absolutely broke the Witcher fanbase last year - as I’m sure everyone knows at this point, he’ll be replaced by Liam Hemsworth from season four onwards. We’ve still not seen Hemsworth’s take on the character, but fans have been creating deepfake images in order to see him in the role. Honestly, he doesn’t even look bad, but there’s no doubt that the change is going to take some getting used to when everyone considers Cavill to be the perfect Geralt.
Take a look at this incredible Witcher pyrography art of Cavill's Geralt.
Despite pleas from fans (and petitions), the decision is going ahead, which is really sad when you consider how eager Cavill originally was to get the role. In a report from Vulture back before The Witcher’s first season aired, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich revealed that he’d got his agents to keep pestering her for a meeting even before she’d begun writing the script.

“He was really annoying,” she said at the time. “I finally said, ‘I will meet with you. The show is not green-lit. There is nothing.’ I said, ‘Thank you. Now I have to go write the show.’”
Cavill also explained the tale from his perspective: “It was something I wasn’t going to let pass me by without giving it my best shot. I annoyed my agents all the time. They said, ‘They’re not ready.’”
Despite the fact that 206 other actors were considered for the role of Geralt, it became increasingly apparent that Cavill was the man for the job. And what a job he’s done - it’s really not going to be the same without him.
Cavill’s final season as Geralt is expected to air sometime this summer.
