It’s officially 2023 and while many of us are looking ahead to what this year will bring, it’s also a popular time to reflect on the year that’s passed - and Henry Cavill certainly wasn’t short of shock news to process in 2022.
The actor announced that he was departing from Netflix’s The Witcher series. While Cavill may not have confirmed the reason why, it’s assumed that the actor doesn’t agree with the writers’ decision to depart from the source novels. In fact, a petition started by fans asking Netflix to rehire Cavill and fire the writers has now received over 300,000 signatures. Cavill’s time in the DCEU also appears to have drawn to a close. Enough about Cavill though. Geralt of Rivea is a mantle that’ll soon belong to Liam Hemsworth.
If you haven’t yet checked out the brand new Witcher spin-off, Blood Origin, take a look at the trailer below.
Liam Hemsworth hasn’t exactly had the warmest reception following the announcement of his casting. In all honesty, I don’t think it’s anything against Hemsworth. After all, we haven’t seen what the actor will bring to the role. Instead, it’s more likely to do with the fact that fans are extremely attached to Cavill. A new concept image is starting to change a few minds though.

Instagram user 83pixelstudios has created a mock-up poster for The Witcher’s fourth season starring Hemsworth and it’s left fans warming to the idea of a new Geralt. “Looking forward to his own take with the character,” one user commented while another added, “He looks more like Geralt from the games than Cavill did. Rather recast than a cancel.”
Liam has certainly got the support of his new castmates. Jaskier actor Joey Batey recently said that Hemsworth is “throwing himself into the deep end of this mythos and this canon with such power and grace and aplomb that I'm really excited to work with him.” Let’s not forget though, we still have one season of Cavill’s Geralt to enjoy.
