Since launching all the way back in 2014, EA’s fourth major title in The Sims series, The Sims 4, now has over 70 million players.
EA announced the multi-million milestone through an official press release, thanking its enormous player base for their time and contribution to the simulation and role-playing game.
Phillip Ring, Executive Producer of The Sims 4 said: “It’s incredible to see how much our community has grown over the past eight years, and our players continue to inspire us with the countless ways they explore life in The Sims 4,”

The press release also drew attention to another major achievement of The Sims 4, which has become the most-played game in The Sims franchise, which has been active for 23 years.
The Sims 4 has seen an astounding level of success over the past few years, largely due to its regular supply of additional content in the form of paid DLC expansion packs. A total of 13 expansion packs have been released since the game’s launch in 2014, with the most recent pack introducing infants to the game, releasing last month.
There are no signs indicating that EA will be slowing down the never-ending Sims content, with more expansions likely on the way, as well as the previously announced The Sims 5, which is still in early development.

Player numbers also received a boost last year, as it was announced by EA that the base-game model of The Sims 4 would be going free-to-play, allowing players on the fence about the series to see what it has to offer, then having the option to expand their game experience through the variety of paid DLC.
However, EA has faced some backlash for their expansion business model, as many fans believe the developers should be focusing on improving the core mechanics of the game, introducing quality-of-life improvements rather than premium content and accessories.
The Sims 4 is available on PC, Mac, Xbox, and PlayStation,
