The Simpsons Hit and Run fans are mourning after it was revealed the game originally had a few sequels attached.
The Simpsons has always been popular, but nothing quite compares to the craze of the late 90s and early 2000s, when the franchise was everywhere.
This included several popular video games, the most fondly remembered being The Simpsons Hit & Run. Created by Radical Entertainment, the game sold 8-10 million copies in its lifetime.

With that kind of success, a sequel would have been inevitable right?
If you need a touch of nostalgia, here are the best Simpsons games ever made.
Earlier in November, a comment from Hit & Run lead designer Joe McGinn was posted under a Summoning Salt video detailing the history of The Simpsons video games.

“Gracie Films offered our publisher a deal to make three sequels,” wrote McGinn. “Some crazy person at the publisher [Vivendi] - we never found out who - said no.”
McGinn also explained the deal included no licensing fee, meaning the studio wouldn’t have had to pay for the rights to use the characters and voice actors.
Either way, we could have got three sequels to one of the best games like GTA of our time. And that’s a kind of tragedy that fans of the game aren’t taking well.
“Damn that's unfortunate to hear,” wrote one user on X (formerly Twitter). “Would love to see a sequel for this great game happen.”

“Imagine having enough power to make these decisions and being f***ing stupid enough to make this kind of a decision,” wrote another.
It’s sad to see we haven’t really had a new Simpsons video game in a long time. The last one to hit consoles was The Simpsons Game in 2007. There’s Tapped Out at least, but even that will be going offline in January 2025.

As X user Shamaboy writes: “It baffles me that there have been no attempts to make decent Simpsons games again, considering they have a much bigger cult following compared to say SpongeBob games. But the latter is somehow getting new games that are built upon BFBB [Battle for Bikini Bottom], while Hit & Run is still left rotten.”
We’re holding out hope that a worthy Hit & Run successor comes along one day.
