Did you think that The Last of Us was done breaking viewership records? The first season’s finale aired earlier this month, and as well as digging up old morality debates from 2013, the episode brought in some groundbreaking stats for Sky UK.
As Deadline reports, new stats from the broadcaster have revealed that the ninth episode, ‘Look for the Light’, has now reached over 3.1 million views, which makes it Sky's most-watched finale for a debut U.S. drama, beating the Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon.
Take a look at this side-by-side comparison of Ellie from The Last of Us game and show below.
Out of that 3.1 million view count, around a third (1.2 million) came from Sky Atlantic’s overnight viewing figures, meaning that a huge proportion of fans watched right as the episode came out. Reality show Love Island’s ninth season finale also aired on the same night, but it didn’t manage to bring in as many viewers as The Last of Us.

It’s little wonder that so many people tuned in when the series has been so gripping. The final episode got both new and old fans alike discussing whether or not Joel made the right choice in saving Ellie from the Fireflies - most are in agreement that he did. To be fair, it’s very difficult to look at Pedro Pascal’s face say anything mean.
The series isn’t over yet, either. The second season has already been confirmed, and the showrunners say that adapting Part II will take multiple seasons, so it’s not going to stop any time soon. What’s more, the adaptation could end up skipping the sequel’s five-year time jump. I beg, please don’t miss out the museum scene.
We’re yet to hear an official release window for season two, but chances are it’ll be some time yet before the next batch of episodes hits our screens.
