With the first season of The Last of Us show officially over, there’s only two things left for fans to do. Number one, start the countdown to the already-confirmed second season, and number two, keep on clamouring for the third game in the series.
The latter isn’t a new demand by any means - since Part II’s release in 2020, fans have been eagerly awaiting the next instalment. Unfortunately, Part III still hasn’t been confirmed to be in development (and given that there were seven years between the original game and sequel’s release, it could be a very long time before we do hear anything).
The remake of The Last of Us is coming to PC later this month - take a look at the trailer below.
Given the series’ sheer popularity, however, it seems like it’ll only be a matter of time before fans have something new to sink their teeth into. What’s more, it sounds like co-creator Neil Druckmann already has some ideas of what he’d like to do with the future video game iterations.

According to Spanish site El Español (via TheGameSpoof), Druckmann revealed during a virtual event that any future games in the series will include “elements” from the TV show.
“If we ever revisit them in game form, which remains to be seen, there are definitely elements that I’m going to take from the series that would apply to the games,” he said.
This isn’t the first time that Druckmann has suggested that the show could influence the rest of the TLoU game series. Back in January, the second episode explained that all infected are connected via a network of Cordyceps fungus, so if you step on a stray shroom, you’ll trigger a horde to run straight to your location. Speaking on HBO’s official The Last of Us podcast at the time, Druckmann said: “That would make for good gameplay. That’s one of those I wish we had in the game.”
If that’s one of the elements that’s eventually added to Part III, I think we can all give up on the idea of having any sleep ever again. Imagine looking for collectibles, stepping in the wrong place and accidentally summoning a horde of bloaters. Big nope.
