It goes without saying that there will be spoilers for The Boys season three in this article, so read ahead with caution if you’re not up to speed.
The Boys has never been a show that shies away from the more… grotesque side of being a superhero. From frequent dismemberment to exploding heads, the Amazon Prime series based on the comic of the same name really showed its hand in the very first episode, when A-Train (a superhero with superhuman speed) literally runs through a woman turning her into a cloud of red mist in a fraction of a second. Yeah. It’s not for the faint of heart.
Now into its third excellent season, fans were treated (if that is the right word) to a scene that took clear inspiration from the internet’s take on how Ant-Man could have defeated Thanos in the Marvel’s Avengers films - by shrinking down to microscoping size, entering his butthole and then enlarging himself. Yeah.

Although that certainly would have solved the problem - Marvel is a family-friendly franchise and would never have been able to get that past Disney. Within the first ten minutes of the season three premiere, however, we’re introduced to a character called Termite who, like Ant-Man, can shrink and inflate his size at will. He also has a rather life-threatening drug habit, though it’s not his life that is under threat. After snorting some white powder, Termite is about to engage in a sex act with his partner that sees him shrink down to microscoping size and… enter his lovers penis via the urethra. Naturally, things don’t go smoothly and Termite sneezes, inflates himself to full size and obliterates his partner in the process. I’m not going to lie to you reader, I was wincing the entire time.
Speaking in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Eric Kripke - who created the show - noted that they had no such issues with creating the scene, and indeed did draw inspiration from the ‘Thanus’ theory, as it has become known. “Once you realise you're gonna do a tiny Ant-Man character, you have to have that Ant-Man run up someone's butt and then blow them up," he said. "But then we realised that we already had blown up someone's ass (back in season one). There's only so many orifices a person can go in. So really, by process of elimination, you [have to] run into a urethra..”
