The Boys often leaves fans speechless, but not quite like this.
Both on the TV screen and on the page, The Boys is hardly for the faint hearted. From gruesome twists that are too graphic to show in Amazon’s series, to the X-rated The Human Centipede scene, we expect to be left reeling.
Yet, none of the above prepared audiences for, arguably, the most gut-wrenching death of the series thus far.

Voiced by Tilda Swinton, the talkative mollusk has been centre stage of a recurring theme in the show: The Deep’s shame.
Having been lovers in the past, the reveal of their physical intimacy to the public left The Deep uncomfortable and embarrassed.
Although virtually everyone around this character manipulates them for their own ends, Ambrosius has genuine love for The Deep. Sorry... had.
During a heated scene in which Ambrosius confronted The Deep about his relationship with Sister Sage, explaining that he’s being used, The Deep lashed out to devastating effect.

The Deep used his fists to destroy the tank Ambrosius is in, leaving her gasping and pleading for her life. Ignored by The Deep, she tells him in her dying breath that she loves him; as if the scene wasn’t traumatic enough!
It wasn’t just fans left stunned by this scene, The Deep’s actor, Chace Crawford, was too. In an interview with TVLine, he spoke of how “shocked” he was.
However, the actor also “thought it was kind of cool”, too. “His violence and his anger is spilling out into the real world and has real consequences for him. He's sort of breaking down and losing it that he actually did this thing,” he explained.
Showrunner, Eric Kripke, also commented on the scene in such a way that only solidifies our collective shock and sadness. Kripke said, “Had he [The Deep] just gone into the ocean with her, he could’ve really been happy, but he just couldn’t do it.”
