To quote that one NPC at the start of every Pokémon game - technology is incredible. 20 years ago, who knew that people would end up using it to stream video games posed as anime characters? I sure didn’t. Then again, I was still watching Teletubbies back then, so I wasn’t pondering very much at all, to be honest with you.
I couldn’t tell you exactly when VTubers really became a thing - all I know is that over the past few years, I’ve seen an increasing number of streamers with animal ears, big ol’ anime eyes, and some who just aren’t human at all. Now, the Sonic Twitter account has once again proved that they are the best social media account in the games industry (apart from GAMINGbible, obviously), as they’ve announced that Tails is becoming a VTuber himself as of next week. Yes, really.
While you're here, be sure to check out the latest trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 below.
“We're excited to announce: TailsTube! A fun and informative, Tails-hosted show about all things Sonic, coming to you next week!” tweeted the official Sonic the Hedgehog account, along with a video of Tails introducing his show. As reported by Nintendo Life, he’ll be voiced by his original voice actor, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, who’s also voicing him in the upcoming Sonic movie sequel.
Fans are in agreement that this is a pretty fantastic (and undeniably adorable) idea: “THIS IS THE BEST THING YOU HAVE EVER DONE,” replied @Maffoo5. “I didn’t know I needed this until I saw it,” tweeted @where_will_I_g0.

Apparently, the show will answer some frequently asked questions, and might also feature some “special guests”, so we’ll have to wait and see who they are. Anyone who follows the Sonic account will probably have seen some of the “Twitter takeovers” which have taken place before, which featured Eggman, Shadow, and Sonic (as you’d expect), so it seems like any or all of those would be the obvious choices here. I vote we get Rouge the bat on there - I’m sure the responses to that would be incredibly normal and not at all questionable.
Can we just talk about the name though? TailsTube? People are going to want to be careful when they’re searching for that one. Maybe go in incognito mode first, just in case.
