Starfield Just Got A Huge New Mode That'll Keep You Busy For Weeks

Another reason to replay

Starfield gamers can now enjoy a huge new mode, and it sounds like a reason to pour another 80 hours into the game.

Starfield has been one of the most divisive RPGs of the past few years. Sure, it may be a little rougher around the edges than Fallout or The Elder Scrolls, but it has its fans.

Considering future updates and expansions have supposedly been delayed to 2026, Starfield fans can have a little looksie at the modding community to bide time until then.

Quantum Immortality is a new game mode that brings roguelike permadeath mechanics to the game, giving you a reason to go back and start another playthrough. However, we’ll put a small spoiler warning here as it concerns the endgame for Starfield.

As players will remember, at the end of Starfield your character is offered the chance to become a Starborn, starting over in a new universe and replaying the game from the beginning.

It’s sort-of like a New Game Plus mode, but actually has a lore reason for existing which is pretty cool.

The Quantum Immortality mod makes it so when you die as a Starborn, this version of your character stays dead. The credits start rolling and then you begin fresh in a new universe.

What’s more, all your previous save files are also deleted, so you can’t go back and try again from an earlier part of the game. Try not to get 80 hours deep into a playthrough and then die to a random hazard, please.

The mod also doesn’t count as a trip through the Unity, so if you died on, say, NG+2, the next playthrough would also be on NG+2.

Since every new instance of New Game Plus in Starfield also brings about several different variations of the world, including one where all the members of Constellation are replaced by children, it means that each new playthrough also essentially functions as a roguelike mode too.

In short, it should be a fun little mode to try out for fans who want to add a little extra difficulty to the game. I'm actually quite surprised Bethesda hasn't implemented an official permadeath mode to Starfield yet, but maybe that's on the cards for later.

You can download Quantum Immortality from the Starfield page on Nexus Mods.
