Star Wars' Kylo Ren and Rey officially return in new series

Star Wars' Kylo Ren and Rey officially return in new series

It's been a long time coming

Star Wars fans rejoice, Marvel Comics is finally going to finish up telling the sequel trilogy story via comic books, as they’ve announced the long overdue Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker #1.

The other two films from the Star Wars trilogy have had very good adaptations in comic book form and now, after a long hiatus originally sparked by Covid, the comic is getting started.

Star Wars is back on Disney+ very soon with the family-friendly Skeleton Crew

The new comic run will focus on telling the story of the film The Rise of Skywalker, you know, the one everybody loves.

The covers and a bunch of pages have been previewed and the art is gorgeous. I’ll admit, I’m interested, but I would be breaking a vow to never interact with that film again.

Anyway, the story will surely play out just like it did in the film, with a few asides here and there.

Reddit fans are reacting to the news, mostly with positivity and joy.

AcreaRising4 commented, “The comic adaptations are also usually pretty good,” which does fill me with a little hope.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Reddit without a little fun being poked at the franchise ending film.

“Sequel Revisionist history starts here,” says NotLozerish. This is followed up by “It's a Star Wars fandom tradition,” from ArrakeenSun.

Part of me is living for this comment from nikgrid who says, “Are they going to have the "Somehow Palpatine returned" panel?”

Can you imagine? It would be nice to see that plot twist - spoilers if you’re several years behind - softened a little by the comic.

It’s a twist that jaded so many fans and while it won’t be walked back in a comic, it could perhaps be foreshadowed or explained away a little better.

The first issue of the series is due out 26 February 2025. There’s no word on how many issues will form the series.
